Mitesh Patel, 37, was married to Jessica Patel, 34, whose body was found dead in their home.
He has been labeled as guilty for her murder, though he denied any participation in the killing.
Officials had found her body in her home, and his murder trial had to deal with the motive of having a boyfriend off of the gay dating app, Grindr. His murder trial was held at Teesside Crown Court, revealing details of him strangling his wife to her death. The method he used is one of the more common but deadly ones, using a plastic bag he got from a supermarket to choke her to death.
The judge, Justice James Goss, ordered the jury to give a life sentence since it was mandatory, he would continue to determine Patel’s term behind bars in an upcoming sentencing hearing.
The court is given details on the motive of the murder, since he had a plan of claiming GBP 2-million from life insurance in order to leave and move to another country to live with his “soulmate,” as Patel describes it.point 191 | The court reveals that his Internet searches were suspicious, along the lines of “I need to kill my wife,” “insulin overdose, “plot to kill my wife,” “hiring hitman UK,” and “how much methadone will kill you?”point 419 | 1
Prosecutors of the case show that it was Patel who tied her up himself, and after hearing the news, Jessica Patel’s family commented at the end, saying that they were “devastated” since Jessica had “simple dreams, all she ever wanted was to fall in love, have a family of her own and live happily ever after.”
In the beginning of the trial, it is stated that he started becoming unfaithful to his wife after meeting his “soulmate” on Grindr. It is said that there are signs of abuse from her husband during their nine years of marriage. There were even arguments that arose, but he dismissed these claims.
Patel had also been stealing Jessica’s frozen eggs in order to create a baby with the man he met on Grindr, wishing for a baby with him.
The victim, Jessica, had run the local chemist’s shop with her husband, having met at a university in Manchester. The home and work place were the main locations that police had been investigating after the word of her murder got out.
Patel is sentenced with a minimum of 30 years in prison.
