The eighth season of Game of Thrones is about to hit our screens.
While we are crazily excited to see how things turn out to be, we also feel sad at the same time. It’s because we know it will be the final season of the hit TV series, bringing the end to an era.
But guess what, we’re not alone in our thinking, Game of Thrones creator George R. R. Martin totally agrees.
Martin, who authored the original fantasy novel series ‘A Song of Ice and Fire,’ has revealed that he doesn’t think the eighth season of the popular HBO epic should be the last.
“I don’t think it should be the final season. But here we are,” Martin told the Hollywood Reporter on the red carpet at the New York City world premiere of the show’s final season.
He added: “It seems to me we just started last week. Has it been longer than that? The time has passed by in a blur. But it’s exciting.”
But he promised that the fantasy land of Westeros would live on, saying: “I know it’s an end, but it’s not much of an end for me.
“I’m still deep in writing the books. We saw five other sequel shows in development. I think I’m going to be hanging around Westeros while everyone else has left.”
Not so long ago, Martin said the show’s story could have easily continued much longer to even 13 seasons.
When asked by Variety the reason behind the show’s coming to an end, he deferred the question to the producers of the series.
“I don’t know, ask David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss] when they come through,” Martin said on the red carpet at last year’s Emmys.
“We could have gone to 11, 12, 13 seasons. But I guess they wanted a life.”
He revealed that they also made certain cuts during development, adding: “If you’ve read my novels, you know there was enough material for more seasons.
“David and Dan have been saying for five years that seven seasons was all they would go. We got them to go to eight but not any more than that.
“There was a period five years ago where they were saying seven seasons and I was saying 10, and they won.”
