A German performance group uses holograms of animals instead of using live animals to avoid animal cruelty.
Circus Roncalli – the first circus in the world to use holograms of animals – discontinued using live animals in the nineties and is now using holograms of animals instead of using live animals.
The Berlin-based group Circus Roncalli, which was founded in 1976, uses 3D holographic images of animals.
The media director of the circus, Markus Strobl, told the German publication RP Online: “Most of the numbers in the show would already be done by the artists and clowns today anyway.”
“The focus of the Circus Roncalli is on poetic and acrobatic numbers.”
Circus Roncalli is being praised for not using live animals to perform. People took to Twitter to praise the group.
One wrote: ‘A HUGE thank you to circus_roncalli for doing this…please come to the U.S !!!!’
Another said: ‘That’s really good news.’
The third one commented: ‘Well this is incredible, thank you so much for your compassion and ingenuity’
The president of Animal Defenders International, Jan Creamer, told The Dodo: “This is the future of circus — a performance everyone can enjoy and for which intelligent, sentient beings are not used and depicted as objects of entertainment.”
