Photographer Conner Stapley and Kayaker had no idea what they were going to find out what they ended up with was nothing less than a phenomenal capture.
They captured an astonishing 20 minutes long video of a giant octopus and seal fighting a battle in the middle of the ocean and the battle was epic off the coast of Kaikoura that lies on South Island of New Zealand.
28 years old Cooner was around Kaikoura’s South Bay with a group of kayakers he had brought there and that is when they witnessed the 120 kg seal ripping apart the octopus for the sake of food.
The Kayaks says this is a very rare occurrence and it is even rarer in the daytime as the New Zealand seals eat during the night time and because of that if someone was able to witness what they did, it was expectantly rare.
The first saw a group of seabirds flying over a spot which meant there was something bloody in the water.
That is when they saw the seal. The footage they had captured shows the seal grabbing the octopus just like a dog would play with its chew toy.
New Zealand seals know how to get their pray and this is why this one was making sure that the octopus is killed.
The New Zealand seals are able to hold their breaths for about 11 minutes and this helps them in going as deep as 30 meters in one go.
