Chloe Hayden knows she cannot save all horses in the world, but she can save a few of them.
Hayden from Australia has always been a horse enthusiast. She felt deeply connected to the four-legged animals. Ever since she was young, she always felt relaxed and comfortable around the gentle giants.
Just recently, she managed to save three horses who were fated to go to a slaughterhouse due to severe drought in the country, forcing a change in life for both domesticated and wild horses.
Hayden said that when she saw the horse sale ad, she felt the need to bid on three horses that were sick and malnourished as nobody else would bid on them.
“Without thought, I bid on the three of them, and took them home that same day, away from their definite fate of meat,” she wrote on Instagram.
When the animals first came out of the trailer and looked at their new home, they were understandably scared, skittish and distrusting.
For the first few days, Hayden watched the horses without trying to touch or approach them. She wanted the horses to get used to her presence so they wouldn’t be afraid of her.
“They can understand that you’re coming from a place of love and a place of kindness and a place of trust,” she told The Dodo.
On the fourth day, she approached one of the horses and was delighted when the animal accepted her touch. “It was the most incredible thing, knowing that this horse who was so scared of everything, had trusted me enough to let me touch her,” she expressed.
Hayden hopes her story may also inspire others to find one vulnerable life or two around them that need love and care.
She wrote on Instagram: “Be kind. Love hard. Give everything. Because you can’t save the world, but for one individual, you can save theirs.”
