A young girl has proudly shared photos of her bald head after beating ovarian cancer at the age of 9 just before hitting puberty.
Kaylee Tolleson from Texas, US, was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer after specialists at the Children’s Hospital’s Emergency Center discovered a large softball-sized tumor on her ovary.

Initially, the doctors dismissed the pain as constipation despite several appointments and it wasn’t until the girl’s parents took her to Children’s Hospital’s Emergency Center that Kaylee was properly diagnosed.point 199 | 1
Following the diagnosis, the brave 9-year-old was forced to quit her hobbies and start with chemotherapy. After several rounds, she was finally declared cancer-free, the news that brought a huge smile on her face.
Since the majority of women diagnosed with the disease are in their postmenopausal stage, Kaylee happens to be one of the youngest patients ever to get diagnosed with ovarian cancer.
“We almost fell off the chair when [they] explained all of this to us,” Kelly Tolleson, Kaylee’s mother, told Texas Children’s Hospital.
“I asked over and over again: ‘Did it really spread? Where did it spread to? Please explain everything again.’ That was a hard day.”
In an interview with Good Morning America, the mum also revealed how the diagnosis affected her young daughter’s social life.
“Her world was turned upside down. Everything was taken away: her ice skating, her Girl Scouts, she couldn’t play outside. She was removed from school and couldn’t complete her last 9 weeks of third grade,” she said.
Fortunately, months of intensive treatment proved to be worth it after the girl was finally able to ring the bell and announce that she was cancer-free.
“It feels amazing to ring the bell because everyone will know that I finally finished my chemo treatment, and that I’m cancer-free. I’m going to be getting out of here, busting my way out,” Kaylee added in an interview with Texas Children’s Hospital.
