A young girl played piano and mobile games for more than six hours during risky brain surgery.
9-year-old Saumya was wide awake when she underwent the procedure at the Birla Hospital in India on December 13.
In the video, she can be seen lying on the table with a blue sheet covering her head while playing the piano.
The clip then showed the surgeons who are operating on her brain behind the large blue sheet.
Dr. Abhishek Chauhan, the neurosurgeon who performed the surgery alongside his amazing team, said the young girl played mobile games and piano for at least six hours.
She remained conscious throughout the risky surgery because of the location of the tumor, which was near parts of the brain that control movement, speech, and vision.
In the awake craniotomy brain surgery, the patient remains awake throughout the procedure.
“This operation was critical and we had heard internationally that we can successfully operate patient with the use of the musical instrument by diverting the mind of the patient,” Dr Abhishek Chauhan said.
“So we did the same. As a result, the girl is fine now.
“During the operation, Saumya kept playing the keyboard and the team of doctors removed the tumour from her brain without giving her anaesthesia.”
The surgeons only used local anesthesia to the part of the head and kept Saumya conscious during the procedure to avoid the risk of damaging other nerves in her brain.
