A 13-year-old student got punched, shown a knife by schoolmates, and got juice thrown at her face just because she takes the noble task of collecting trash on the way to school.
Ever since she started her incredible project, she has picked up more than 1,100 liters of trash and most of it has been recycled.
Nadia, a student from Norwich England, is someone who cares about the planet and we need more people like her. But some students at her school chose to bully her when they noticed her positive behavior. They even taunted her with the nickname ‘trash girl.’
But Nadia embraced the name and even created a Facebook page ‘Team Trash Girl’ where she encourages other people to share their trash-picking stories.
She wrote: “I wanted to find a way to help everyone support one another, to help fix the planet’s problems before it becomes unfixable.
“So, please try to pick up 3 pieces of litter today. Show us what you have found. Let’s all support each other to make the world a better place.”
Nadia’s story went viral and she became an ambassador for the wildlife charity WWF. The teen has also won international recognition and multiple awards. She even immortalized in cartoon form and being a great artist herself, she is now publishing environment-themed cartoon in newspapers.
Unfortunately, bullies didn’t stop that some students threw orange juice at her. Nadia was shown a knife by her schoolmates and was even punched at school. Because of the heartless bullies, she was forced to change schools.
Her new teacher, Mr. Willer, at a new school, Reepham High, told BBC: “I’d heard of the amazing work she was doing collecting rubbish and how, very sadly, she was being bullied because she was doing something different.
“This hit a nerve with me and we discussed how Nadia might like to come and have a look at Reepham High.”
