A young girl is believed to be the youngest coronavirus patient in the US as the number of cases rose to 20 in New York City.
The 7-year-old girl showed only minimal symptoms when she was diagnosed with coronavirus, said New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio.
According to health officials, her parents and two sisters have tested negative to the killer virus.
The little girl from Bronx is now recovering at home. She is a student at Westchester Torah Academy, the school that was temporarily closed after at least three children tested for coronavirus.
Those children had come into contact with the Westchester attorney who was linked to the disease.
There are at least 140 cases in New York state with 11 of those in New Jersey and 10 in New York City. 98 are in Westchester, 17 in Nassau, Long Island, 4 in Rockland County, 2 in Saratoga, 1 in Suffolk County, Long Island, and 1 in Ulster County.
De Blasio said that they are ‘very, very worried about’ a diabetic man, 75, as he was critically ill in ICU after developing pneumonia.
The most common symptoms of coronavirus are dry cough, fever, difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, and fatigue.
Most patients only become mildly ill but the condition can turn severe and deadly, especially for those who have underlying health problems or older.point 338 |
In such cases, patients develop pneumonia, which can cause fever, mucus (green, yellow or bloody), low appetite, fatigue, confusion (more common in elderly people), and nausea and vomiting (more common in children).point 184 | 1
One internet user commented: “I don’t like this self isolate!! How do you know for sure they are isolating themselves?? Does the government not understand how idiotic some people are?? Self isolation is just asking for trouble!!”
Another wrote: “The children are going to be the most dangerous carriers. Little to no symptoms and touch everything. Very hard to not hug them if you are a grandparent or parent.”
A third added: “NY is one of the busiest cities in the world a million+ visitors every day. We’d be fools to think only 50 or so people have it in this town.”
