A young girl was left with 20 cuts requiring 42 stitches after swimming in a knee-deep beach in Maryland.
12-year-old Jordan Prushinski from Pennsylvania shared the horrifying moment she was playing on 119th St. Beach when she suddenly felt a stabbing pain.
In an interview with WBRE-TV, Jordan said: “I didn’t really realize what was going on until I was on the beach and I was bleeding everywhere.”
“I was swimming and a wave had just crashed and I was right on the edge of the crash zone, I thought a horseshoe crab had got lifted up and hit against my shins,’ Jordan said of the moment she felt the bite,” she continued.
“I don’t like the sea creatures so I rushed out immediately to find blood everywhere, with cuts all over my left leg.”
The young girl’s mom, Melissa Prushinski, said witnesses, including a nurse and an EMT, helped the 12-year-old.
Jordan was then rushed to Atlantic General Hospital where she received 42 stitches on her leg.
According to CBS Baltimore, the Ocean City Beach Patrol was there to help the girl. Captain Butch Arbin also said he hasn’t seen anything like this in almost 50 years.
Jordan’s father Robert Prushinski also said: “Lifeguards and everybody else that were helping, were fantastic.
“By the time I got there, I scooped her up and got her onto a quad and got her out of there.”
Officials are now consulting experts and are not ruling out marine life.
“We still don´t know what kind of shark it was. The ER doctor confirmed it was a shark bite because no other animal makes this type of bite,” Mrs. Prushinski said.
Marine Levine, the executive director of the Shark Research Institute, says she believes that a black tip shark might’ve attacked Jordan while she was playing in the water.
