A 10-year-old girl was diagnosed with COVID-19 after developing a severe fever despite not experiencing other common symptoms like cough and sore throat.
The unnamed youngling from Plymouth, the UK, has tested positive for the killer bug after her body temperature reached nearly 107°F (41.7°C).
According to the reports, the girl, who isn’t in a vulnerable group due to her young age and lack of underlying conditions, was initially believed to be suffering from tonsillitis.
After her fever skyrocketed and she was taken to the hospital, however, the girl got diagnosed with COVID-19.
As it was revealed, the ten-year-old didn’t exhibit some of the main symptoms, including coughing and sore throat, of the disease.
Following the diagnosis, the school that the girl attends notified all parents about the case and encouraged them to watch their kids closely.
“The head teacher has spoken to her parents this morning and she is starting to be able to sit up and move around for short periods of time,” the announcement read according to Plymouth Live.
“Hopefully this is the beginning of her recovery. Antibiotics did not help with this virus and the parents have only been able to give her paracetamol. Please monitor your children and yourselves carefully for symptoms, stay at home and stay safe.”
Previously, in another unrelated incident that happened in the UK, daughters were forced to say their final goodbyes to their dying grandmother via phone after the woman contracted the novel coronavirus.
75-year-old Jane Jay from the UK was a “vibrant” lady who passed away at West Suffolk Hospital after being diagnosed with COVID-19 and quarantined.
To make the matters worse for the family, Jane’s daughters were not allowed to see her during her final moments whereas only one member of the family, the senior woman’s son, was allowed in.
“My sisters and I had to pick which of us would be the only one allowed to sit with her which was very difficult. My sister is a social worker so we decided to protect her from infection so chose me instead, but it was all very surreal,” Jane’s son, Alex, revealed.
“When she was in the isolation ward, it was very quiet, very quiet and very calm – almost bizarre. The last time I saw her I had been told by the doctor there was a 100% chance she wasn’t going to make it – then it took me an hour to compose myself before I was ready to go in and see her.
“I got a bit emotional because there was no hope. I said, ‘Have you told my mother?’ and they said, ‘Yes we have, she knows and she wants to see you.’”
As the heartbroken son added, his mother remained strong until the end and even cracked some jokes with him before passing away.
To make sure everyone was able to say goodbye to Jane, Alex also established a call that her daughters and grandkids could participate in.
“We could not hug her goodbye. We couldn’t tell her we loved her for the last time in person. We are in shock because it is so surreal. It feels like numbers until it is there and you experience it,” 22-year-old Molly, Jane’s granddaughter, expressed.
“I will forever be grateful for the love my grandma had for all of us, for the kindness she showed.”
