An 8-year-old schoolgirl tragically passed away only hours after saying she felt unwell.
Elmira Bondarenko died only hours after saying she did not feel well during recess at her school in Brailov, Ukraine.
The tragedy happened after the schoolgirl was taken to school by her father Sergey Kupchishin.
The grieving father said to local media: “She was fine and happy on our way to school that morning.
“Then, a few hours later, her teacher called and said she had got sick.”
Teachers said that Elmira complained about having headaches until she lost consciousness.
“The girl walked out of the classroom when she felt a strong sudden headache and complained about it,” Olena Ivasenko, the school principal, said.
“Minutes later the child began to lose consciousness and her teacher managed to catch her in the arms.”
The staff immediately alerted a school nurse and called an ambulance.
Mr. Kupchishin told local media: “I ran to school and saw my girl lying motionless on a table with paramedics trying to resuscitate her.
“I rushed to her. Tried to help.”
Medics tried to save Elmira’s life for the next two hours but her heart wouldn’t start beating again.
Okena Bondarenko, a local health authority spokesperson, said: “Paramedics performed CPR, used a defibrillator and adrenalin injection but the girl remained unresponsive.”
The young girl’s family said she was healthy and she ‘never complained about headaches.’
Post-mortal examinations then showed that the 8-year-old girl died from a stroke caused by a blood clot in her brain.
“The girl suffered from сerebral venous thrombosis but medics did not identify the disease in time,” said health authority representative Mrs. Bondarenko.
“The ischemic stroke could be triggered by a virus infection, stress or physical exercises.”
