A 16-year-old girl with Down syndrome has been attacked by trolls online after her father shared a video of her dancing at a stadium.
The Tottenham Hotspur fan was invited by England captain Harry Kane after social media trolls mocked her dancing.
Ella Markham from Banbury, Oxfordshire was ridiculed because of the footage filmed by her father at a stadium in North London after the 1-0 defeat to West Ham.
Her hero, 25-year-old Kane, has sent a video message inviting the teen to be the mascot at the final Premier League match of the season against Everton.
He said in the heartwarming video: “Hi Ella, I’ve seen the video of you dancing at the Spurs game. I just want to thank you for your amazing support. I loved it.
“Obviously we know your family are proud of you as well. We know you are a big fan.
“We’d love you to come down and be the mascot for the last game of the season against Everton. Hope to see you there. Keep dancing, keep doing what you are doing. Lots of love.”
Her father, 43-year-old Neil, had received backlash over the video of his daughter. He then received Kane’s personal message from Spurs via WhatsApp.
The proud father said: “This has made my daughter’s day after a horrific weekend. She was really, really excited when she saw it.” He added: “Obviously we are going to take them up on the offer.”
Also a father to Ryan, 26, and Danny, 11, Mr. Markham responded to the abuse by putting his contact number online and challenged trolls to directly speak to him.
He has also received thousands of messages of support from relatives, friends, and strangers while Tottenham pledged to “take appropriate action” against any fans involved.
