An adorable four-year-old girl with Down syndrome appeared in the American Girl catalog after participating in their festive-themed photoshoot.
Little Ivy Kimble appeared alongside another child of older age as the two took to the venue to promote a range of products including clothes and accessories.
Speaking of the Illinois-based girl’s big achievement to WLS, proud mother Kristin said her dreams came true and urged companies to be more inclusive of people with disabilities.
“I have four girls and to have one of them in the catalog is every mother’s dream. But especially having a child with Down syndrome, there’s not a lot of print or media with a lot of kids with Down syndrome. So it’s a big deal for her. I mean, she’s a cute little girl and she has Down syndrome and she’s in the catalog,” she said.
“For us, we want to keep seeing kids of all abilities out there in print. And I love that these companies are trying to make the conscious effort to continue to put them in print.”
As the proud mum went on to say, there are plenty of influential people, including models, who have Down syndrome.
In addition, many companies have also started producing toys with disabilities in order to be more inclusive of children who are born different.
As for the American Girl, they have already created dolls with wheelchairs, insulin pumps, crutches, and hearing aids. However, they have not yet released a doll with Down syndrome.
“My hope is that… it stops being a conscious effort and it just becomes natural. They’re just seen everywhere,” Kristin added.
