A young girl froze to death after sleepwalking in the middle of the night.
3-year-old Angelina was found lifeless by her mother Svetlana Kuleshovar in an unheated hall of their home in Satka, Russia.
The night before the heartbreaking incident, the family had celebrated the first birthday of Angelina’s younger sister.
Svetlana, 23, told police: “I put Angelina to bed and she fell asleep before midnight. We (Svetlana and her husband) watched a little TV and went to bed too.
“When we woke up in the morning, we did not find her in her bed.
“We found her in the hall. She was lying on the floor.”
The grieving parents said their daughter was prone to sleepwalking but none of them saw her leave her bedroom on the night of the tragedy.
Svetlana believes their 3-year-old daughter sleepwalked in the unheated -15C hall of the house and failed to go back to her room.
“She was a sleepwalker. Went to the hall and failed to return back,” she expressed. “Most likely she didn’t find the door handle in the dark and could not go back in.”
Svetlana said she and her husband did not hear anything throughout the night.
Police launched a criminal case against the mother for causing death through negligence. If convicted, she faces up to two years in prison.
“The investigation established that the girl left the indoor area of the house on her own,” said local law enforcement official Mikhail Khrokhin.
“She walked in the hall where she suffered from hypothermia and died.”
Svetlana’s one-year-old daughter was taken away by social services.
