A 2-year-old girl was found dead inside a hot vehicle parked outside their home while her mother took a midday nap.
The horrifying discovery was made when the mother woke up from a nap and she couldn’t find her child inside their house.
She immediately called 911 to report that her child had gone missing. But when she contacted 911 again after the line went dead, she found her little girl inside her car.
The heartbroken mom said her child was not breathing and unresponsive before emergency services arrived at the scene.
Paramedics performed CPR on the child but she was unable to be revived.
Officers haven’t disclosed whether or not the mother left her child inside the vehicle before she went for a nap. Her identity has also not been made public.
But according to NBC San Diego, the mother may have been a military wife.
News crews interviewed devastated neighbors and friends. One neighbor said: “This is tough. It hits home. It could happen to any of us. I’m a mother, we go through a lot being military spouses, you know, with our significant others, just in life in general and this is just so unfortunate.”
One internet user commented: “Goodness me, when will people learn. This must be devastating for the whole family. As part of the driving test you should be made to endure even 5 minutes in a hot car so you’ll understand just how bad it can be. so so sad.”
Our thoughts and prayers are with this family during this difficult time.
