A teenage girl was left with a suspicious-looking ‘injection spot’ following a night out with her friends.
19-year-old Anya Whitaker-Keating from Leeds, England, was vacationing in Manchester together with her friend when the pair enjoyed a night out at the city’s Christmas market.
Recalling the evening, the teenager revealed she had only had some beer and two glasses of wine to drink. Though she didn’t drink much, Anya completely blacked out alongside her friend and lost all memory of her return to her hotel room.
“It got to about 4 or 5 o’clock and I started to feel a bit drowsy and that’s the last thing that I can remember,” the young lady says.
“We booked a hotel, but I don’t remember going to it, I just remember waking up in the morning and I was sweating and did not know what happened.”
On the following morning, Anya woke up to severe drowsiness and her friend told her that she had been acting as if she was extremely drunk.
After closer inspection, the 19-year-old also discovered a strange spot resembling an injection site on the top of her leg.
Immediately, the teen rushed to the hospital where she was given a Hepatitis B shot just in case she was jabbed and injected with drugs on her night out.
While awaiting the results of her blood test, Anya revealed the doctors were unable to confirm whether she had been spiked or not.
“It’s horrendous. I was really shocked as I’ve seen this happening to other people and I was just shocked that it happened,” she added.
Following the incident, the teenager admitted feeling concerned as she said she’ll probably avoid going out for some time.
In the meanwhile, Greater Manchester Police confirmed that they are aware of Anya’s report.
“We are, of course, horrified to hear of this report. No one enjoying themselves at the Christmas Markets – or any venue in the city center for that matter – should have their safety put at risk,” the city’s spokesperson said.
“We want our Christmas Markets to be a safe place and security are posted across each of the event spaces and are very visible.
“If you see anyone acting suspiciously or you are worried that you may have been spiked, please speak to a security guard and you will receive help.”
