All drivers are familiar with the annoying blind spot problem.

More than 840,000 car accidents happen because of the blind spot, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Those blind spots result in property damage and in some cases, even death.

Even though drivers take precautions by adjusting side mirrors and driver’s seat properly, installing additional cameras and others, blind spots cannot be eliminated completely.

But not having a driver’s license didn’t stop Alaina Gassler from understanding the damages and fatalities caused by blind spots.

She presented her amazing invention at the Broadcom MASTERS (Math, Applied Science, Technology and Engineering for Rising Stars) competition.

Alaina’s project is called ‘Improving Safety by Removing Blind Spots’ and she explained: “I did that by having a camera behind the a-pillar of a car and the camera sent the video to a projector that projected the image onto the pillar essentially making it invisible and making the driver see behind it.”

The teen used attainable materials such as projector, a webcam, and 3D printed materials to project the outside view onto the car’s blind spots.
