16-year-old Riley Horner has suffered a traumatic brain injury and every time her memory resets, she thinks it is June 11 as she forgets everything.
It was on June 11 when she was involved in an accident after she was kicked in the head during a dance class.
“I have a calendar on my door and I look and it’s September and I’m like, ‘Whoa!’” she told news station WQAD. “People don’t understand – it’s like a movie.”
Even though she has visited numerous hospitals, doctors are still baffled as to what exactly happened to her.
“I’m not making memories and I’m just really scared. I will have no recollection of this [interview] come supper time. My mum will say, ‘Oh, you were on the news,’” Riley added.
According to her family, they’ve visited all local hospitals they can near their hometown but there’s still no answer.
“They tell us there’s nothing medically wrong,” said Riley’s mother, Sarah Horn.
“They can’t see anything. You can’t see a concussion, though, on an MRI or a CT scan. There’s no brain bleed, there’s no tumour.”
Riley has to take constant photos on her phone and write things in her notebook so she can remember basic information.
However, her unknown condition also causes her to forget major family events.
“My brother passed away last week and she probably has no idea. We tell her every day but she has no idea about it,” her mother added.
Even though doctors do not know exactly what her condition is, they warned that it could be permanent.
“I am not okay with that. We need help. We need somebody that knows a little bit more because she deserves better,” Sarah expressed.
