An 11-year-old girl has inspired the world after starting a life-changing journey with one goal in mind – to grant the financially-restricted residents of elderly homes their wishes.
Ruby Kate Chitsey was inspired to do good by her mother, Amanda, who works as a nurse in Harrison, Arkansas.
Amanda not only takes care of her patients but also travels to different nursing homes where she offers her services.
One time, little Ruby decided to tag along and talk to the elderly residents while her mother was working.
Soon, she came upon the idea to ask the seniors what they would wish for if they could choose three different things. “I thought people would say money, houses, a Lamborghini,” the girl said, explaining that she was surprised to find out that the seniors’ wishes were simpler than she imagined.
From yummy meals to razors to comfortable shoes, Ruby soon realized she could make their wishes come true. “Like, that’s all they wanted. And I really decided that I needed to do something,” Ruby added.
And so, the 11-year-old founded Three Wishes for Ruby’s Residents, a charity that aims to grant seniors’ wishes.
She and her mum also set up a GoFundMe page where they are raising funds to cover all the expenses. According to the page, Ruby is “an 11-year-old raising money to help thousands of nursing home patients who are low on family and low on funds.”
As a part of her heartwarming initiative, the young girl now regularly accompanies her mother to work and goes room-to-room to pen down residents’ wishes. She then tries her best to make them all come true.
“These extras are the things that make life sweeter,” Ruby told CBS News. “It really lifts you, it really does.”
