A young girl from the United Kingdom has become an orphan after her 45-year-old single mum tragically died from COVID-19.
12-year-old Cheidza, also known as Chichi, is being cared for by the Renew Church parishioners following the death of her mother, Rutendo Mukotsanjera.
Rutendo, who is originally from Zimbabwe, has no family members in the UK, meaning that they could not provide and take care of her young daughter after her death caused by the novel coronavirus.
According to the reports, Rutendo’s fellow churchgoers are currently in contact with the girl’s family in Zimbabwe in an attempt to determine what’s best for the girl’s future. One of the members has also taken the girl in for the time being.
As The Mirror reported, the 45-year-old single mum worked in the public health sector whereas she was previously employed by Zimbabwe’s Infrastructure Bank.
Following the woman’s sudden death, the kind worshippers have set up a JustGiving fundraiser to financially support young Chichi.
As the organizers of the fundraiser wrote, they will support the orphaned girl no matter what.
In another unrelated incident, a mother and a nurse who was diagnosed with COVID-19 passed away just days after her baby was delivered via emergency C-section.
The tragic death occurred at Luton and Dunstable University Hospital in England where 28-year-old Mary Agyapong, who worked as a nurse, was admitted after experiencing symptoms of the novel coronavirus.
Due to the delicate nature of the young nurse’s pregnancy and her worsening health condition, the doctors decided to perform an emergency C-section to save the baby’s life.
Unfortunately, the 28-year-old died on Easter Sunday, just five days after her daughter, also named Mary, joined her family.
After Agyapong’s premature passing, the Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust paid a tribute to the nurse and called her “a fantastic nurse.”
“Mary worked here for five years and was a highly valued and loved member of our team, a fantastic nurse and a great example of what we stand for in this trust,” Chief Executive David Carter expressed.
“She tested positive for Covid-19 after being tested on April 5 and was admitted to the hospital on April 7. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Mary’s family and friends at this sad time.”
