An 8-year-old girl was caught on camera breaking down in tears after her father happily announced that he was finally cancer-free.
43-year-old Chris Dickson was devastated after doctors diagnosed him with bladder cancer over 6 years ago. While he kept on undergoing chemotherapy, the tumors kept on returning until he was hospitalized in order to have his bladder removed.
While the father was recovering in the hospital, his daughter, Maisy Dickson, was patiently waiting at their home for his return.
Nine days later and 5 days before expected, Chris surprised his daughter by waiting for her in ambush at their Morecambe, Lancashire, home.
“I hid on the sofa in the living room and she ran upstairs. My wife told her to check her snapchat because her dad had sent her a message from hospital and was waiting for a reply,” the father explained.
“I’d actually sent her one from the sofa asking her for a hug.”
Speaking of the time the two were apart, the father, who is now cancer-free, added:
“I have never been away from my daughter for even a night. She flew down the stairs and screamed when she saw me.
“She completely broke down, I had never seen her like that before. I broke down as well, I had never ever felt anyone show so much love towards me.”
Speaking of his disease and the 9-hour surgery during which the dad had his prostate, bladder, sperm sacks, and lymph nodes removed, Chris said:
“I know it doesn’t sound like a long time six years, but when you live through it, it feels like sixty years. I was in agony after the operation. I still am, but at least my children can wake up every day their father is going to live.
“Maisy has seen me battling cancer for six years, it has affected her too. It was very traumatic for her. She visited me while I was in hospital and was distraught when she left. She completely broke down.”
Fortunately, the family is back on their feet and Maisy couldn’t be more thrilled to have her dad back.
“My daddy is my best friend and I hated him being in hospital, now I’ve got him back cancer-free for the rest of my life,” she said.
