An adorable girl playing with her father’s phone spent £20 on three onions!
1-year-old Alice Mitchell-Johnson was holding his dad Jamie Mitchell’s cellphone when the father-of-one checked his device and saw a notification informing him that his order was on its way.
That’s when he discovered that their toddler had ordered a single onion from their local Morrison’s branch.
The stunned father tried to cancel the £1.50 order, which came with a service and delivery fee of £18.49 but his item is already on the way.
“When I took it off Alice it said your phone has been disabled and I had to wait a minute before I could use it. When I looked at it again it said your Deliveroo order is on its way,” Mr. Mitchell said in an interview with Sun Online.
“When it arrived it turned out to be a pack of three onions – so better than a single one. The onions were in a Morrisons paper bag. The guy didn’t say anything because of social distancing.
“I’m thankful we didn’t have to confront the embarrassment and explain – which he may or may not have believed.”
The father-of-one added: “It was a tear-jerker. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw what she’d done. She always messes with my phone but she usually just calls the emergency services.
“But it turned out that we were out of onions – so maybe Alice knew – and I wasn’t going to let the opportunity go to waste so I cooked us a curry with lots of nice crispy onions on top.
“Earlier this year I lost my job. I found out yesterday that I didn’t get another role that I went for. So it was a good moment of family humour for the day.”
His post on Twitter gained more than 60,000 likes and almost 10,000 retweets.
Deliveroo also offered £50 and said: “This is so sweet! We’d love to send you the rest of the ingredients for the meal and some Deliveroo credit.”
