A pizza delivery man was shot by a teen who lured him to an empty house with a fake order.
Jaelynn Billups, 17, and her Alberto Vanmeter, 19, attempted to rob Joshua Ungersma while he was delivering pizza in Indiana.
Mr. Ungersma, a new father, reportedly shot Vanmeter in self-defense after the teen attempted to rob him.
The Domino’s pizza delivery man then ran across the street and asked someone to call the police but Billups shot him dead.
Sadly, Mr. Ungersma was found lifeless on North 16th Street after police received reports of ‘shots fired’ around 11 pm on August 31.
Officers also found Vanmeter’s body with a Domino’s pizza box, two drinks, and money on the ground.
Witness Patrick Gibson said he heard the shots and saw Mr. Ungesma uninjured.
The delivery man then told him that Vanmeter had attempted to rob him and asked him to call the police but Billups came and shot Mr. Ungesma dead, the Lafayette Journal & Courier reported.
Police said Mr. Ungersma had ‘a .38 S&W revolver in his pocket with the rounds fired.’ The new father had a permit to carry the gun.
Mr. Ungersma passed away from multiple gunshot wounds while the 19-year-old died of a single gunshot wound, a coroner determined.
Billups was charged with two murder counts – causing Mr. Ungersma to kill Vanmeter and killing Mr. Ungersma.
In addition, the 17-year-old was charged with theft, carrying a handgun without a license, pointing a firearm, armed robbery, and conspiracy to commit armed robbery. She is being held without bond.
Jimmy Ruedlinger, the store owner, said: “We want to be able to do whatever we can for the family. They’re going through a lot right now, obviously, with the loss of their father, the husband, a son in the mom’s case.
“We’re a family here, and we’re a team, and we’re going to take care of whatever we can take care of at this point.”
