A young schoolgirl has touched the hearts of people from all around the world and raised thousands of dollars for a selfless cause after holding up a sign with a touching note.
Little Addie Bryan was born with Larsen Syndrome, a rare condition that caused her legs to contort. It took the experts at the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children several years to treat the girl.
Thanks to their free treatment, the girl can now walk and run and is determined to help other children in need.
To help the hospital raise funds for other children, Addie came up with a selfless birthday wish. Instead of requesting new toys or gadgets like most kids her age, the young girl asked for money to help out the hospital.
“My birthday wish is to raise $8,000 for my Scottish Rite Hospital for children,” the sign that she was holding read. While she wasn’t able to get enough money in one run, Addie managed to return home with a mountain of cash and was determined to continue raising funds until she reached her goal.
After the media learned of the girl’s selfless cause, People Magazine shared Addie’s story and donations began pouring in. Soon enough, Addie raised whooping $19,500. Making the most out of this opportunity, Addie wasn’t ready to stop there.
It wasn’t long until Stephanie Brigger, the hospital’s Vice President of Development, received a payment from an anonymous sender who donated $50,000 in Addie’s name because they felt inspired by her hard work.
“I am almost speechless because I am the one who opened it,” Stephanie expressed.
“The anonymous donor wrote about seeing Addie and the pictures of her and then seeing her running. That’s a lot of casts and a lot of prosthetic devices. Every little bit and big amounts help us do what we do.”
In total, the little girl was able to raise as much as $69,500 for the Scottish Rite Hospital!
