5-year-old Isla Wilkinson has passed away after waking up with flu symptoms before she collapsed.
Her brain was starved of oxygen for 20 long minutes.
Sadly, her Isla’s heart stopped beating while her mom, Alex Williams, was giving her CPR at their home.
After playing at a Christmas party, the young girl woke up the next day with a high temperature and cough. Due to her severe symptoms, Alex rushed her to the hospital where she lost consciousness.
Doctors managed to revive Isla before transferring her to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary where the family received the devastating news that the girl only had a few hours to live after her brain was deprived of oxygen for 20 minutes.
It is unclear why Isla collapsed but Alex said she had ‘flu or a bug.’
The 5-year-old girl passed away after her 9-year-old brother said goodbye.
Isla’s aunt, Marcia Hogan-Williams, decided to set up a GoFundMe page for her funeral. She said to Chronicle Live: “Aiden has been at the hospital and has said his last goodbye to his sister. She is his best friend, he does everything with her.
“He wants to have a big funeral for his sister. He would like a horse drawn carriage and everything pink because she is a little princess.
“He wants it to be special, all beautiful because she is a princess with her long blonde hair.”
Marcia wrote on the GoFundMe page: “With the heaviest of hearts, we’d like everyone to know our beautiful Isla left this world at 5pm this evening so peacefully and perfectly, in the arms of her parents.
“Alex painted her nails and plaited her hair ready for the biggest most special hug as the amazing nurses at RVI finally let her go.”
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time.
