A young Afghan girl was photographed joyfully skipping across a runway after being safely evacuated from Kabul.
The girl was seen to be seemingly jumping for joy when she and her family arrived at Melsbroek military airbase outside Brussels, Belgium.
The touching photograph was taken by Reuters photographer Johanna Geron at the base which is next to Belgium’s busiest airport, Brussels Airport.
The picture was taken on Wednesday, and according to local media reports, the plane had arrived in Belgium from Islamabad, Pakistan.
Eurocrat and former Belgian Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt tweeted the heartwarming photo with a caption:’This is what happens when you protect refugees. Welcome to Belgium, little girl!’
At the time of this writing, the tweet has already been liked more than 25,000 times and received almost 1,000 comments.
The young girl and her family were among a group of about 1,400 people who Belgium evacuated from Kabul after the Taliban forces took over Afghanistan when the US decided to withdraw its troops in the country.
This is not the only moving photo that was taken from Afghans who escaped the Taliban rule.
A laughing Afghan lady has also been photographed at a US-run Rota airbase in southern Spain, after being safely evacuated from Kabul airport.
Several British officials have also been pictured with refugees, who are happy to have made it to the UK.
UK’s Home Secretary Priti Patel was also photographed talking to an Afghan mother and her children at Heathrow Airport.
UK’s Health Secretary Sajid Javid was also pictured welcoming a family that had just arrived in Britain. He, later on, tweeted their meeting with a caption: ‘welcome to Britain’.
