A teenage girl who appeared to have been kidnapped by several men has pleaded guilty to staging the entire thing because she didn’t want to move countries with her parents.
16-year-old Karol Sanchez from The Bronx, New York City, has gone to extreme measures to try to avoid her parents after they have decided to return back to their native Honduras.
And so, the teen staged her own kidnapping with the help of several accomplices who made it look as if they abducted her while she was walking home with her mother.
According to the sources who have spoken out to CBS2, Karol was upset by her parent’s decision and couldn’t deal with their decision to move back to Honduras.
Determined to stay in the U. S., the girl asked her accomplices for help.
As seen in the CCTV footage from the place of the incident, four men pulled their car over and grabbed Karol in front of her mother before driving off.
Following the ‘kidnapping,’ the police started a major search for the 16-year-old and promised the reward of $2,500 for information that would lead to her finding.
15 hours after the incident, Karol apparently had a change of heart as she decided to return home to her mother.
“She was bending over, grabbing her knees, and discussing with the police. And that’s when they took her into the parking garage for questioning,” witness Zani Koxha said.
As she added, the girl appeared distressed and “shaken up” upon her return. Karol also shed tears as she was questioned by reporters about whether she regretted her decision or not.
After being taken to the police station, the girl allegedly admitted to staging a kidnapping because she didn’t want to leave the country with her family.
As of this moment, the police are still investigating the incident and deciding whether anyone will be criminally charged.
