Little girl Brooklyn from Bloomington, Illinois, has always been very fond of Delvar Deshawn Dopson, a garbage collector, and would sit by the window waiting for him to pass with his truck and collect the trash.
And when it was this little girl’s birthday, she decided to surprise the garbage collector with a ‘fairy cupcake.’
Dopson was delighted to receive the cupcake and planned a special surprise for Brooklyn and her brother to return the favor.
He used to be in the area each Thursday and every time the little girl would wait and wave at him. Delvar, of course, always responded with a smile on his face.
Traci Andracke, the mother of Brooklyn, understands how much Delvar means to her little girl and would sometimes take her around the block to see him in case they didn’t see him at home.
On the day of Brooklyn’s third birthday, the girl also decided to reward Delvar’s hard work with one of her birthday cupcakes.
“When he came down our street, she ran to the corner. We were waving like usual, and I motioned for him to come over by us. He pulled over, got out and gave us his BIG smile. Brooklyn was instantly speechless as she handed him the cupcake,” her mother wrote on Facebook.
“I explained to him that he makes our day every Thursday, and we really appreciate the honking and waving, and how special of a day it is for us.”
She added: “Then… (melt my heart)… he explained that he looks forward to seeing us every Thursday as well. He said that he has a meeting every Thursday morning and always tries to get out of there in a hurry so that he can make sure to see us every week.”
After giving the garbage collector a cupcake and saying farewell, Brooklyn said: “mommy, I am so happy.”
Delvar, who was touched by the kind gesture, decided to surprise Brooklyn and her brother Ty on his birthday as well. And so, six months later, he arrived with presents and cupcakes for the kids.
The tradition continues ever since, and Brooklyn’s family is glad to have Dopson in their life.
“THANK YOU!!! Thank you for the joy that you bring Brooklyn every Thursday morning, for making her birthday special, and for making my heart happy. It may be a little thing that you do, but it means so much to us!” Traci wrote.
