Two young girls survived a car crash that instantly took the life of their dad.
The twins unbuckled themselves from their seats, managed to crawl out of a shattered window, and climbed up a steep embankment to search for help.
The accident occurred in Clinton on Washington State’s Whidbey Island. Their family car fell 100 feet down an embankment and officers said that the twins’ actions to find help allowed them to be noticed by another driver.
Washington State Patrol trooper Heather Axtman said to BuzzFeed News: “This is miraculous,” adding that the twins’ actions are ‘brave and heroic.’
The cause of the crash is being investigated but for some reason, driver Corey Simmons, who wasn’t wearing his seat belt, veered to the right of the road, said Axtman.
Simmons died instantly while twins Aurora and Rosaline, were buckled in their booster seat and suffered minor injuries.
The twins checked on their father before climbing out of the vehicle but it is not clear if they knew that their dad had been severely injured.
“They were just saying ‘my daddy, my daddy’ and knew something tragic had happened,” said Axtman.
She also said that it had recently rained and the area was dark. The crash wasn’t visible to other drivers due to the thick brush but the children managed to find the road.
“It’s the woods, and it’s scary for little kids, and they overcame that fear,” Axtman said. “I mean, the bravery that they showed is what I can’t get over.”
The moment Aurora and Rosaline reached the road, a woman saw them and stopped to check what had happened.
“Literally at the right place at the right time,” Axtman expressed. “Had that Good Samaritan not stopped, who knows when the next car would have come by.”
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time.
