A goat having face weirdly human-like, in fact, too human-like, has been born in India.
Its owner Mukeshji Prajapap shared the strange one-of-a-kind goat chewing grass and shaking its tail.
Mukeshji lives in a village named Nimodia, just outside Jaipur district in the Rajasthan province of India.
According to the local sources, the people of Nimodia have a view that goat is an “avatar of God.” Mutant and strange animals always get a lot of attention in India.
However, scientifically speaking, the goat is affected by a rare birth defect called cyclopia.
In this uncommon condition, the genes responsible for creating the symmetric face of the animal don’t work the way they are supposed to, leaving the affected goat with a disfigured face.
Generally, cyclopia causes the goat to have a miscarriage or even stillbirth. Being born alive, too, is not a very good thing for this poor goat.
Due to the failure of proper development of its nose and mouth, the goat has breathing and eating complications.
Such a case of an abnormal looking goat also surfaced last year in the Philippines where the goat kid was dubbed “half-human, half-pig” by the locals.
Forty-year-old Josephine Repique from the Sultan Kudarat area of the Philippines had her goat pregnant with a litter of two kids. She called a veterinarian to perform a Cesarean Section.
When the vet took the goat kids out of the mother’s womb, one was a normal goat but the other was a surprise.
The second kid had no hair on its body, its skin was bald and shiny and it had a belly-button. It was also oddly overgrown as compared to its normal sibling.
The owner, Josephine, said that the goat “looked like a pig with a mix of human.”
She further said: “We were shocked. We can’t explain how it looks like that. All our neighbors flocked into our house to get a good look.”
Unfortunately, the goat and both of the kids died shortly following the birth. The locals branded the mutant kid as “a cursed mutant devil.”
Josephine added: “Nobody knows what it is, but it’s not a goat. It’s scary. We’re all wondering why it happened and if it is bad luck.”
For the scientists, for obvious reasons, the kid was not a curse from the devil but rather the aftermath of some genetic mutation.
Dr. Agapita Salces, a specialist form the Institute of Animal Science of the University of the Philippines, said: “It is a possible case of genetic mutation.
“It is also possible that the mother contracted a disease called Rift Valley fever from mosquito bites and this caused the impaired development of the infant.”
