Only few professional golfers have ever achieved this and Morgan is not like most golfers. he played just another round on the north course at Oaks North with friend Austin Pepin. He tried to get his ball close to the pin as he used a gap wedge club to launch his tee shot on the 134-yard No. 4 hole.
“Austin said he’d never seen a hole-in-one before,’’ said Wam, who spoke by phone while vacationing in Tennessee. “His excitement took over the moment. He was yelling and screaming. It was kind of cool.
“It sounds really weird, but when you hit a hole-in-one you can feel it off the tee. It’s either going in or at least get real close.’’
According to Wam, his first shot went in and he was in disbelief when his shot No. 6 also went in.
“With a hole-in-one already, I never thought the shot on No. 6 would go in,’’ Wam said. “Austin and I looked at each other in disbelief. For a ball to go 157 yards and hit right in the hole is unbelievable.
“There was a guy in the foursome ahead of us sitting near the green resting and he said he’d never seen anything like this.’’
“The final 12 holes that day seemed like something in the universe was off,’’ Wam said, laughing. “It finally settled in on me what had just happened. I realized what I’d done was truly special. The golf gods must have been on my side that day.
“I’ll be honest, I was trying for a third one during those last 12 holes.’’
Wam has played one year of junior varsity golf as a sophomore after an elbow injury stopped him from playing baseball that year.
“If I had gotten a third one that day, no one in the pro shop would have believed me when I came in,’’ Wam said. “I still get a look from people when I have to tell my story. I don’t think they believe that I had two holes-in-one on the same round.’’
“I’ve definitely caught the golfing bug now,’’ Wam said. “Maybe a fourth hole-in-one is out there.’’
