Over One Thousand Google Employees Demanded The Company Cuts Ties With Fossil Fuel Companies


Over one thousand Google employees have signed the petition in which they demanded the tech giant takes immediate action on the matter of climate change.

1,137 employees have signed the petition before handing it over to HQ in an attempt to get the company to “commit to and release a company-wide climate plan.”

Among others demands in their petition, the workers asked Google to cut ties with fossil fuel companies as well as with “entities enabling incarceration, surveillance, oppression, or displacement of refugees or frontline communities.”

According to the leaders of the petition, they want to make sure the tech giant runs on “zero emissions by 2030, zero contracts to enable or accelerate the extraction of fossil fuels and zero funding for climate-denying or -delaying think tanks, lobbyists, and politicians.”

The open-letter was directed to Ruth Porat, the CFO of Alphabet, the parent company of Google.

“We, the undersigned 1,137* Google workers, in accordance with the gravity and urgency of the global climate crisis and its disproportionate harm to marginalized people, call on Google to commit to and release a company-wide climate plan incorporating:

Zero funding for climate-denying or -delaying think tanks, lobbyists, and politicians.
Zero collaboration with entities enabling the incarceration, surveillance, displacement, or oppression of refugees or frontline communities,” the petition, which was posted on Medium, reads.
