Google has finally unveiled its new gaming service ‘Stadia.
’
The gaming platform operates on the cloud and lets you stream games on any device without having to struggle with downloading.
The service is expected to launch this year in the U.S., Canada, and U.K, with more details about game titles expected to be available in only a few months.
Stadia also doesn’t require the traditional console. Instead, it lets users play games with existing desktops, TVs, laptops, phones or tablets, and also with their mouse or keyboard.
“Play instantly. No updates, no downloads,” Google said. “Jump right into the game.”
The firm’s CEO Sundar Pichai debuted the new gaming service at the annual Game Developer Conference in San Francisco.
Google also rolled out its first Google-branded Stadia game controller. It is integrated with its Al-powered Google Assistant.
Stadia also builds upon ‘Project Stream’ initiative which allows users to play Assassin’s Creed Odyssey in Chrome with their own controller.
If gamers see a YouTuber streaming a game, they can simply click the ‘Play Now’ button and it will instantly boot up right on their screen.
Phil Harrison, vice president of Stadia, said: “To build Stadia, we’ve thought deeply about what it means to be a gamer and worked to converge two distinct worlds: people who play video games and people who love watching them.
“Stadia will lift restrictions on the games we create and play—and the communities who enjoy them.”
According to the company, the service was created with gamers, YouTubers, and developers in mind.
“We wanted to build a game platform for everyone,” Pichai said. “…We want sharing games to be as easy as sharing a link and clicking on it.”
Stadia games can be streamed on TVs, tablets, phones, laptops, and desktops, making it possible to play “where you want, when you want.”
It supports up to 4K resolution with HDR color at 60fps, and could soon support up to 8K resolution at 120fps.
“Enjoy gaming the way you love, with beautiful HDR graphics and smooth frame rates,” the firm said.
