A cheeky gorilla has attracted thousands of visitors to the Prague Zoo in the Czech Republic after his hilarious expressions took over the internet.
Richard the gorilla never lets his fans down and is always ready to pose for the camera. Richard, who is well-known for “smoldering poses,” has been described by his followers as a photogenic model with human-like expressions and outstanding modeling skills.
According to the Zoo’s archives, the 440-pound gorilla will turn 27 this year. He first arrived in Prague in 2003 and quickly became the alpha male.
Only a year later, Richard had a baby named Moja with a female gorilla named Kijivu. Moja is the first gorilla ever to be born in a Czech zoo.
Richard is now a father-of-eight who has the ability to capture visitors’ attention in an instant.
“Richard is very human-like in his appearance. His unusual look has made him very popular on social media: people seem to think he is quite handsome. He is definitely my favorite subject to photograph,” Lucie Stepnickova, a photographer who’s been taking pictures of Richard for over 10 years, said.
31-year-old Lucie pursued photography, specifically gorillas, after quitting her job as a waitress.
In an interview with Caters News Agency, the gorilla photographer said:
“I’ve been going to the Zoo to see the gorillas for 11 years. The baby gorilla Ajabu is male and he was born on 23rd April 2016. Since Ajabu was born, I’ve been going once or twice a week.
“It seems that he is already well acquainted with me. Almost every visit he goes to greet me. Sometimes just a little bit, sometimes I’ll stay with him and we play together. And sometimes we just sit opposite of each other and look in each other’s eyes. It’s an incredible experience!”
