‘Stubborn’ 92-Year-Old Grandfather Beats Coronavirus Despite Battling A Terminal Disease


A grandfather managed to beat coronavirus despite having terminal cancer and pneumonia.

92-year-old Jim Bannister from Frimley, Surrey was given only eighteen months to live in December after he was diagnosed with cancer.

In March, Jim was taken to a hospital with a urinary tract infection. His grandson, Dan, contacted emergency services and the 92-year-old was taken to Frimley Park Hospital where he was diagnosed with pneumonia and coronavirus.

The family feared the worst but the ‘stubborn’ grandpa miraculously beat the killer bug after a two-week stay in the hospital.

In an interview with SurreyLive, 37-year-old Dan said: “The problem was, we could not go and see him, so the initial thought was that, with all these things going on, he was not going to make it.

“But amazingly, he was not ready to go, he is stubborn. He has been back at home and he is on the mend and recovering slowly.”

Jim, who had been in isolation since the outbreak, is now making is own meals again every day.

It was 5 years ago when the former head engineer lost his wife but he stayed upbeat during his stay in the hospital.

Dan, who decided to move in with his grandfather after he was diagnosed with cancer in 2019, urged others to stay positive as his grandpa’s story shows that people can get through this situation.

“It can be beaten. I know it’s horrible and there are people with no underlying health conditions who are dying, but there is someone who is in the high risk category, who is not meant to pull through, and he made it,” Dan said.

“He pushed through and it can be done.”
