A 77-year-old man bravely fought off a thief at a cash point.
According to reports, the pensioner had just withdrawn cash when the would-be mugger attacked him and demanded his wallet.
However, the brave old man put his both fists up and showed blows on the thug like a boxer. He even shouted ‘come on, then’ at the thief, who ran away empty-handed.
People on social media have praised the 77-year-old man after the dramatic footage was released by South Wales Police.
One internet user commented: “Hope the old chap is OK after his boxing match. He deserves the Lonsdale belt!”
Another wrote: “Very sad that these things walk the streets picking on old people.. how about we get some guardian angels walking the streets…”
A third added: “Good on this Senior Gentleman for Fighting back + this thug wants putting down as their is no detterrent to make them think twice, Come you guys in Parliament get your finger out.”
Someone else said: “A man you would want as your grandad.h’es got integrity determination pride and a backbone.well done mate.”
Authorities are now hunting the thief, who they said was wearing a high-vis vest, a black backpack, and black hat with a white motif on front.
Police said the incident occurred at around 6am outside the Sainsbury’s in Colchester Avenue on February 5.
“The victim in this case showed great bravery, however he has been left shaken,” detective Constable Stephen Mayne said.
“We would encourage anyone who knows him to please come forward.”
