An 89-year-old grandma with dementia only loves to eat McDonald’s hamburger, fries, and Coca Cola.
However, after McDonald’s announced it will be closing all its stores amid coronavirus outbreak, Eva Gilland’s family made sure to get her favorite food.
Eva, from Wavertree, Liverpool, loves to eat McDonald’s hamburger, fries, and Coca Cola but after McDonald’s closed all its stores, the family came up with a great idea.
They made a homemade hamburger and fries for the grandma and wrapped it in McDonald’s packaging.
Eva’s granddaughter Natalie Pickersgill, from Wavertree, Liverpool, asked for spare McDonald’s wrappers online and McDonald’s workers agreed to help her.
Natalie said: “She is now at the stage of not eating much and for that couple of months her weight has dropped to 5st 5lbs.”
“The only food she will happily eat is McDonald’s hamburger, fries, and coke. We have bought bottles of coke in order to keep her hydrated, but when we heard McDonald’s was closing I panicked realizing I wouldn’t be able to get her to eat.”
Natalie was overwhelmed with the response her post got as three different managers contacted her and told her to use the wrappers free of charge.
Natalie praised the McDonald’s workers across Liverpool and is really grateful they helped her so her grandma can enjoy McDonald’s meals even at home.
She said: “People were amazing, offering to help and we managed to get help. Everybody has their own personal issues with all that’s going on and with coronavirus, whether that’s with employment or child care, so it’s the fact that people took time out their lives to help.”
Natalie thanked Tom Carroll from Stondale McDonald’s, Heather and Ollie from Lord Street McDonald’s and Nicola and Claire from Raleigh Street McDonald’s who provided her free McDonald’s packaging.
She also thanked people who helped to get her message across to get the packaging.
