A Colorado grandmother was left dead at a hospital’s ER parking lot for several days before her body was finally discovered.
50-year-old Yvette Mooney from Denver was found sitting lifeless in her car in the emergency room parking lot at Englewood’s Swedish Medical Center on August 23.
As the investigators have found out, the woman had died at the hospital’s parking lot three days prior to the discovery of her body.
“She couldn’t make it inside. She thought, ‘I’m in an ER parking lot. They will find me – somebody will come.’ Not three days later when she’s blistered and too decomposed for us to have a proper burial,” Kandra Garcia, the grandmother’s daughter-in-law, said in an interview with WKRN.
As Garcia suggested, her mother most likely went to the hospital to visit a friend. After Mooney failed to check in with her family or answer their calls, however, they called the police who eventually discovered the grandmother’s car.
According to the police, the late discovery of the 50-year-old’s body could be linked to the fact that her car had tinted windows which made it hard for people to see inside the vehicle.
The police have also informed the news station that Mooney’s cause of death is being investigated by the coroner and that surveillance tapes will be reviewed upon the hospital’s release.
Following the tragic discovery of the grandmother’s lifeless body, the hospital issued a statement in which they offered “deepest sympathy” to the loved ones of the deceased.
“We offer sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to the family and loved ones. Upon discovery of the event we immediately notified the Englewood Police Department and have worked closely with them throughout the ongoing investigation,” the hospital said in a statement to KDVR.
To ensure the same thing doesn’t happen again, Mooney’s family has been demanding answers and requesting the hospital to perform frequent car checks at their parking lot.
“Somebody dropped the ball and I want answers,” Garcia said. “There should never be an unattended death.”
