It is difficult to be separated from your loved ones especially when a new member of the family just arrived.
Because of the pandemic, people living in care homes and hospitals were not able to see their family and friends as visitors were prohibited to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
A grandmother living in a care home was over the moon when she finally met her great-grandchild for the first time in a heartwarming reunion.
97-year-old Margot Lawson met baby Cecile for the first time after CHD Living Surbiton in London allowed socially-distanced reunions with family and friends.
Baby Cecile’s mother, Claire, said: “Seeing my 97-year-old grandmother and eight-month-old daughter interacting together is something I had looked forward to for a very long time.
“I was so delighted to be able to properly introduce them to one another safely; the glass partition didn’t take away from this moment filled with love and laughter which I will always cherish.”
Speaking about the moment she finally met her great-granddaughter, Margot said: “It was overwhelming – I was so surprised.
“I didn’t even know Claire was visiting today, so that was a wonderful surprise in itself, and then I saw Cecilie on her arm and it was just marvellous.
“It’s made my year.”
The heartwarming reunion came after it was announced experts are investigating whether a new strain of coronavirus increased hospital admissions in Kent.
Non-urgent surgeries have been postponed because of the rise in Covid-19 patients being treatment at hospitals in Kent, the NHS said.
But a spokesperson said urgent services including cancer appointments would be unaffected.
