You might have come across unfortunate stories of Instagram daredevils who lost their lives in the quest of taking great photos.
Some people would hang off the cliff, whereas others would do crazy stuff on top of a skyscraper just to get an Instagram-worthy photo.
Sadly, sometimes the stunt goes wrong, daredevil dies, but the extreme selfie madness lives on. Something similar happened in Iceland a few days ago where a grandmother’s desire to be a ‘queen’ resulted in a big tragedy, thanks to a bystander who saved her life.
Judith Streng, of Flower Mound, Texas went to Iceland for a vacation with her son. They were visiting Diamond Beach in Jökulsárlón when they came across frozen water turned into throne-like seats, straight out of Disney’s Frozen. Streng told a local news channel, “I’ve always wanted to be queen… that was my chance.”
She further added, “It was shaped like an easy place to sit.point 175 | You can tell by looking at the shape of it, and I thought well it looks like fun,” But after posing for the photo, something unfortunate happened.point 297 |
A large wave came and started sweeping the throne out to the sea.point 53 | At first, the grandma tried to jump to the rocks but it happened so quickly that she didn’t have time to do anything.point 154 | 1
Grandma told about the incident, “When I got on it started to totter and a wave was coming in, a very large wave came in and made the throne kind of rock and I could tell I was slipping off. I thought it was safe. I don’t weigh very much so it was a little easier to float off I guess.”
When her son saw the situation getting out of control, he started shouting for help. Luckily a bystander happened to be standing close to the lake who was also a boat captain and was trained for water rescue incidents.
He went to the sea and saved the grandmother as she lost her ‘kingdom’ into the sea.
Streng’s son sent the pictures of this mishap to his daughter, who posted them online and since then they have gone viral. “Lost her kingdom when she drifted out to see!,” one of the texts said. “No joke. A coast guard rescuer had to save her and bring her back to shore!”
Even though people are happy that grandma is safe but people are also showing reactions that why at first place, her son let her do such things.
What do you think, was it totally based on her bad luck? Or whether her son should not have let her sit on the throne?
