A grandmother has been once again reunited with the teen whom she accidentally invited to her home years ago.
It was the year 2016 when now-63-year-old Wanda Dench accidentally invited now-21-year-old Jamal Hinton to a Thanksgiving dinner after mistaking his phone number for the number of her grandson.
After Jamal asked the grandma if he could still come over for dinner even though the invitation was sent by mistake, Wanda kindly insisted that he was welcome to join her family on Thanksgiving.
Following the 2016 incident, Jamal has been joining the Dench family for the Thanksgiving celebration on a yearly basis, whereas Wanda and her family have gone viral for their generosity.
Sadly, this year’s celebration came at a bitter time for the family, whereas Wanda’s husband Lonnie has passed away after contracting coronavirus back in April.
Despite the tragic incident, the grandmother insisted on continuing the family tradition by hosting a Thanksgiving meal at her home.
“I always remember Lonnie looking at the bright side of things. He would want us to celebrate his life instead of hating COVID and hating everything,” she said in an interview with The New York Times.
Attending this year’s early Thanksgiving celebration were Wanda’s daughter and grandson as well as Jamal and his girlfriend, Mikaela.
“Thank you for all the blessings, and thank you so much for having Lonnie in my life. I miss him, but I know he’s in a good place. So to everybody here, I love you and have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Amen,” Wanda said in a touching prayer caught on camera by Arizona Family.
