A 65-year-old grandmother from Florida has made the headlines after standing her ground and beating a large 300-pound car thief with her baseball bat.
According to Clarese Gainey, she approached the half-naked attacker after hearing the noise as he was trying to break into her car.
After picking up her baseball bat, the elderly woman rushed outside her Gainesville apartment determined to stop the car thief at all costs.
“I grab my bat, I braced myself, and I eased the door open,” the 65-year-old, who happens to be a former high school softball player, recalled.
Then, the attacker, Antonio Mosely, charged at the lady knowing that she wouldn’t let him get away with her vehicle easily.
“I took that bat and hit him upside the head like ‘pi-yah!’ He said ‘Ow!’” Gainey added in an interview with WGFL.
After the incident, the car thief ran away to a nearby park but not before dropping his pants, shirt, and one of his socks. Thanks to the K-9 unit tracking Antonio’s smell, the police managed to catch the man who was hiding in the park.
As the officers arrested the thief, he was already wearing new pants. He was also in possession of cocaine.
Following the arrest, the police asked Gainey to identify the thief whom she claimed to be easy to recognize not only due to his looks but also thanks to the head bump caused by the blow of her bat.
“He better be glad I didn’t have a gun,” the pensioner said. “Because I would have shot him. But this is my gun right here,” she added, pointing at her precious baseball bat.
