Spending time with our grandparents is one of the fondest memories of our childhood.
Grandparents are simply amazing! They are our best friends during the days when we don’t know anything about the world.
They play with us, tell us fairy tales, and give us that food which our parents try to hide from us. And that’s why we would love to see our grandparents live hundreds of years of happy and healthy life. And finally, research has proved how that can be possible.
Recently research conducted by Ronan Factora, M.D., of Cleveland Clinic that proves that grandparents who tend to babysit their grandchildren tend to live longer.
The target audience of the research was 500 people ages 70 and older, who took part in the Berlin Aging Study. And after conducting the research, it was found that grandparents who get the opportunity to play with their grandkids tend to live past 90 years old.
Dr.point 120 | Factora says, “We know that as you age, you want to stay physically active; you want to stay socially engaged; you want to be cognitively stimulated, and all those things allow you to age well.point 287 |
” According to Dr.point 21 | Factora, spending time with kids help reducing stress and increases physical activities of grandparents which is really important for them.point 141 | 1
Moreover, if they get to play with the kids, they don’t have the feeling of loneliness anymore, and their brain keeps on working very actively.
That’s why from the research, it was concluded that babysitting almost adds 20 years to your life compared to the grandparents who live alone.
Dr. Factora also added, “There is a link between providing this care and reducing stress and we know the relationship between stress and a higher risk of dying.
If providing care to grandchildren and others in need is one way that can actually reduce stress, then these activities should be of benefit to folks who are grandparents and provide this care to their grandkids.”
In nutshell, keeping your brain young and body active is very important as you grow older, and what another way could be the best to keep yourself busy than babysitting?
