A grieving grandmother called for the end of gun violence after her one-year-old grandson was fatally shot while at a playground.
According to the reports, Davell Gardner Jr., 1, was fatally shot after two suspects opened fire near a playground in Bedford-Stuyvesan, Brooklyn, New York City.
“So, when is it going to end? When are these young African American men, when are they going to stop with the shooting and the killing of all these innocent kids? It don’t make any sense,” Samantha Gardner, the toddler’s grandma, said in an interview with The New York Daily News.
As she went on to claim, the community is only getting worse, and “nobody is trying to make a change.”
The grieving grandma also spoke out to Fox News and suggested that the “cowards” responsible for her grandson’s death should be ashamed.
“For the cowards that did this, you should be ashamed of yourself because everybody talk about black lives matter. What about baby lives? What about teenager lives?” Gardner said.
“Like, you took an innocent child from her mother and father as well as the grandparents. I don’t think it’s fair.”
According to the reports, baby Davell died at the hospital after sustaining a gun wound to his abdomen as he was sitting in his stroller at a playground.
After firing several bullets and injuring three other people, the two suspects fled the scene.
