Bright green sludge was spotted inside a large sinkhole that appeared in the middle of a street in a residential area in Canada.
The bizarre incident took place on Hastings Avenue in Toronto, Canada, where locals came across a giant sinkhole with green slime-like fluid inside.
In photos shared by blogTO, the glossy green liquid is seen filling up the sinkhole, prompting social media users to link the incident to the Hulk and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and suggest that Ghostbusters should be called to deal with it.
After the incident went viral, the city officials insisted that the water was artificially colored with non-toxic dye for testing purposes.
“Toronto Water staff inspected the sinkhole yesterday evening. Sinkholes can be the result of a damaged or collapsed sewer,” a city official said in a statement to 680NEWS.
“In order to determine if the sinkhole is connected to the underlying sewer, a dye test was conducted using a green non-toxic dye, which is added to the sinkhole while monitoring the closest manhole downstream to look for traces of the dye in the sewer.”
According to the city officials, local residents have nothing to worry about, whereas this is allegedly a procedure commonly implemented during sewer repairs.
Despite the official explanation of the green ooze, people couldn’t help but crack jokes at the expense of the incident.
“This made me actually laugh out loud. I now need to have pizza for dinner,” one commenter wrote in a reference to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles who lived in the sewers.
“I’d probably call the Ghostbusters,” another one joked.
