Greta Thunberg was offered a boat ride back to Europe after pleading for a gas-free solution on Twitter because she doesn’t want to ride a plane.
As the teen eco-warrior revealed, she’ll be sailing to Spain to attend yet another United Nations climate meeting with an Australian couple, Elayna Carausu and Riley Whitelum, who offered to take her with them on the 6,300-kilometer ride.
“So happy to say that I’ll hopefully make it to COP25 in Madrid. I’ve been offered a ride from Virginia, USA, on the french 48ft sailing catamaran La Vagabonde,” Greta announced in her post.
“The two Australians Riley Whitelum, Elayna Carausu and Nikki Henderson from England will take me across the Atlantic Ocean.”
The Australian couple runs a YouTube channel named Sailing La Vagabonde that has over one million followers with whom they share their boat adventures.
“Through our videos we hope to inspire others to explore alternative options of living and to spread ocean awareness,” Elayna and Riley wrote in their channel’s description.
As for the 17-year-old environmental activist, she refuses to fly with planes due to the massive carbon footprint they are associated with.
Greta’s announcement follows shortly after she met with actors Arnold Schwarzenegger and Leonardo DiCaprio.
“It was fantastic to see my friend and one of my heroes @gretathunberg last week and go on a bike ride around Santa Monica together and I was so pumped to introduce her to my daughter Christina. Keep inspiring, Greta!” the Terminator actor wrote after their meeting.
As for the Titanic star, he called the teen the “leader of our time” and praised her efforts towards the preservation of the environment.
