Greta Thunberg has launched an attack on President Biden as she accused him of not doing enough to tackle climate change.
In a fiery interview with MSNBC, the 18-year-old Swedish activist blasted the 46th US President despite endorsing him ahead of his election win last year.
While the United States returned to the Paris climate agreement following Joe Biden’s inauguration, Greta insisted this is not enough as she said the climate crisis should be treated as a crisis.
Though Biden signed several environmentally-friendly executive orders after taking office, the teenager attacked him for not immediately reducing GHG emissions to counter global warming as per the treaty’s goal.
“Well, you shouldn’t take that from me, I’m just a teenager, so I’m not – I don’t have the mandate to sort of give grades like that,” the 18-year-old said when asked how she would grade Biden when it comes to the actions he’s taken to address climate change in the first 90 days in the White House.
“My opinions on this doesn’t matter.
”“You should rather look at the science and whether his policies are in line with the Paris agreements and to stay below one and a half or even two degrees Celsius, and then you can clearly see that, no, it’s not nearly enough in line with the science.
“That’s not me saying, that’s just black and white, looking at the facts.”
After being asked by the MSNBC host what Biden should do that he is not already doing, Greta admitted that this is a “difficult” situation before doubling down on her calls for more action.
“I would just like you to basically just treat the climate crisis like a crisis. They have said themselves that this is an existential threat and they better treat it accordingly – which they are not,” she added.
“They are just treating the climate crisis as it was a political topic, among other topics and, yeah, treat it as a crisis, that’s the No. 1 step.”
The host then proceeded to ask the teen what advice she would give to the president if he asked her to help him plan the next-step-actions.
“Well nothing,” Greta responded before defending her choice of words by saying that wouldn’t be democratic at all.
“So, what we need now, is to raise awareness and to create public opinion to treat the crisis like a crisis because if people are not aware of the crisis that we face of course they won’t put pressure on the elected leaders,” she added.
“So, I would just tell him to tell the situation as it is.”
