Gregory Mathieu who used to work at grocery store bagger from Québec City bought a lottery ticket that made him $70 million.
According to CTV News, the 22-year-old received a cheque for $70 million from Loto-Québec.
He arrived at the supermarket where he worked, IGA Extra, and confirmed the ticket. According to his coworker, Mathieu was crying and shaking with excitement and called his father to pick him up.
“When there was nobody at the register I told her, the cashier, to check the ticket and she checked it and I couldn’t believe my eyes. And I still can’t believe it,” Mathieu told CTV.
“I went to sit down because I couldn’t talk or think,” he continued of the life-changing moment. “I called my mother and then I called my brother and then they came and joined me at the IGA and we went straight to my grandparents to take a breath.”
The lucky winner has announced that he would give $1 million each to seven members of his family. During a press conference on Friday, his mother, Sandra Julien said: “We are a very close-knit family and I am thrilled that we are able to experience this life-changing moment together.”
Mathieu’s car had been breaking down and now he can afford a new one as he said he is planning to travel and purchase a new car.
Lynne Roiter, President and Chief Executive Officer of the organization said: “This is the first time in our history that a jackpot this large is won in Québec,”

The IGA Extra, where he purchased the ticket will get a $700,000 commission one per-cent of the prize for selling the winning ticket, reported CTV News.
