A grooming gang has been sentenced to a total of 55 and a half years in jail for raping two young schoolgirls.
Gul Riaz, Banaras Hussain, Usman Ali and three other men were sentenced after a 4-week trial at Leeds Crown Court.
The disgusting abuse occurred between 1995 and 2011 in Huddersfield and the students were only 14 and 13 at that time.
The court heard that the girls were ‘made to feel special’ by the vile gang who then treated them as ‘objects to be used and abused at will.’
By the time the first victim was 15, she had already been raped by around 300 men. Both girls suffer from PTSD and one of them has a lifelong struggle with bulimia and depression.
More than 30 men have been convicted with jail sentences totaling over 300 years.
It took a jury 12 hours and 49 minutes to convict the defendants of 12 offenses, including indecent assault and rape. According to detectives, one of the schoolgirls was targeted on her paper round “speaks volumes about the sheer depravity of this case.”
Social services informed the girl’s family that “she must love it if she keeps going back,” Ms. Batty said.
The victim said that she kept the abuse ‘buried’ for 22 years, adding she ‘wasn’t believed’ by the police. She also said she was ‘ashamed’ and ‘let down’ but after seeing her attacker’s mugshot in a newspaper, she knew she had to get justice against all assailants who “took away her childhood.”
Prosecutor Andrea Parnham said to the court: “She suffered from stress, anxiety, low self-esteem – she has panic attacks. Her childhood has been taken away from her. She was a bright and wacky kid but that’s all changed.
“She kept it buried for 22 years. She tried to report an incident in 1997 but she was disbelieved and felt let down by them.”
The prosecutor added: “She knows now they were using, grooming and manipulating her for their own purposes and she has to live with that for the rest of her life.”
The other victim suffers from bulimia, depression and PTSD. Both victims told the court that they are still affected by the actions of the men.
The rapists have been sentenced to 55 years and a half.
